The 4th grade classes went to the Mary Jane Brown Home last week to play Holiday Bingo with the residents there. Both students and residents had a great time!

Last Friday was the annual PPIE Respect Lunch where students got to eat a fancy meal in the lunch room while listening to holiday piano music played by Sue Sandbulte. Students were served a ham dinner by PPIE volunteers. Thank you so much to PPIE for putting on this event every year!

🌿 Honoring Native American Heritage Month in 5th Grade 🌿
A couple of weeks ago, our 5th grade reading classes had the privilege of welcoming special guest speakers from the Luverne American Indian Parent Advisory Committee (AIPAC) after they had wrapped up the novel study of The Birchbark House.
We are incredibly grateful to AIPAC Chair Sue Arpan Wallace, AIPAC Secretary Josie Xaisongkham, and students Aubrie Timmer and Chance Xaisongkham for sharing their time, knowledge, stories, and personal experiences with us. Their insights brought deeper meaning to the different Native American cultures and history we’ve been learning about throughout the novel.
A highlight of the visit was watching Josie perform the Jingle Dance, a beautiful and meaningful dance traditionally done for healing in many Pow Wow circles. Our students were engaged, respectful, and excited to learn from such generous community members.
We are so appreciative of the opportunity to learn directly from local Native voices as we continue honoring Native American Heritage Month. Thank you again to our presenters for enriching our students’ understanding and helping make learning come alive. 🌟📚🧡

Mrs. Elbers 4th graders are doing Harry Potter for their read aloud and to celebrate, students got to try on a "Sorting Hat" from the book last week!

There will be no after school Homework Club today Monday, December 1st!

5th Grade Fall Leaf Clean-Up! 🍂
Our 5th graders spent the day giving back to our community while making real-life connections to our science learning! As part of our Ecosystems unit—where we’ve been studying how producers, consumers, and decomposers work together—students explored how people can also play a role in keeping an ecosystem healthy.
Students visited RCO, helped clean up Nature Explore, and gathered leaves around the school grounds. By removing excess leaves, they helped support the spaces where plants, animals, and decomposers thrive. It was a wonderful hands-on opportunity for students to see how their actions make a positive impact on the environment.
We are so proud of their teamwork, responsibility, and willingness to serve our community. 🌎💚🍁
Great job, 5th graders!

Today for a fun a Halloween activity each student in Mrs. Schomacker's 2nd grade class was given a one dollar bill and had to plan out which supplies they would like to buy to create a fall character. They practiced planning for how much money they would need to spend and also what change they would get back to buy more supplies later. Their creations turned out awesome!

There's lots of things going on in Mrs. Wolf's 3rd grade class so far this year!

Surprise 3rd grade “camping day” on the Wednesday before MEA. Camps worked together on themed activities during Reading and Writing, got to play BINGO, and read with flashlights.

3rd graders learned about life in the past during social studies last week. They wrapped up chapter 1 with some old school games like jacks, Pick Up Sticks, Tiddlywinks, and hopscotch.

Mrs. Reker's 1st grade class did a science experiment in which we modified a beach umbrella so it was able to stand up to stronger wind. We learned about how trees are able to stand even in windy conditions.

Luverne Elementary is proud to implement Project 11, a social-emotional learning (SEL) program that builds mental health awareness and equips students with practical tools for wellness. Through 15 lessons each year, students learn skills and strategies to support positive mental health and develop healthy coping habits. We are grateful to the True North Youth Foundation and the MAX Foundation for making this program possible for our students.

Kindergarten students took part in Kindergarten Boot Camp. Last week, Mrs. Atkinson-Smeins, School Counselor, taught lessons on listening and respect, and read The Lucky Button by Julia Cook --a story about easing first-day jitters. Each child received a button necklace.
