March Mayhem Winners

The Classic Gym was full of energy on Tuesday, March 17, as the Luverne High School Student Council hosted the annual March Mayhem basketball tournament. This event featured 42 junior and senior participants who do not participate in basketball, divided into six teams.

Varsity basketball players took on the role of team coaches, drafting players and coaching their teams during the tournament. A live draft was held on March 13, setting the tone for competition. Senior Kasey Buss was selected as the No. 1 overall pick by the Iowa Hawkeyes team, coached by Ava Sieve and Khloe Visker.

The No. 3-seeded Indiana Hoosiers and the No. 1-seeded Iowa Hawkeyes advanced to the championship game. Indiana, coached by Connor Bose and Jaydon Johnson, defeated Iowa in a mild upset, 19–16, in the title game.

Maddux Domagala, a standout player on the Cardinal hockey team, led the Indiana team at March Mayhem and was named the tournament MVP.

In addition to the student games, the event also included a popular matchup between a team of Luverne teachers and members of the Luverne Fire Department. This year, the teachers defeated the firefighters, 22–17.

March Mayhem serves as an annual fundraiser for the LHS Student Council. Proceeds from the event help fund school activities throughout the year. The event is organized by a committee of the high school Student Council, led by a tournament commissioner. This year’s March Mayhem commissioner was Charlie Mostad.

With strong participation, competitive spirit, and community involvement, March Mayhem was a huge success and a highlight of the school year. Thank you to everyone who helped!
